Good evening, and welcome to Top 10 Flashback, where we look at what various Top 40 radio stations were playing in years past.
Well, it’s time to travel to Canada this week and tune into their premier Top 40 station (besides CKLW – I’m biased), 1050 CHUM in Toronto. Let’s hear what those wacky Canadians were hearing this week – survey dated October 14, 1972. Continue reading
Greetings, loyal readers, and welcome to mid-September. Summer’s pretty much over now, and one good thing about that is football season! Our Lions, long the laughingstock of the NFL, actually looked pretty good against the Giants on Monday Night Football, despite all the stupid penalties. We Lions watchers (a/k/a masochists) have been conditioned to expect a flag on every play, especially if there’s big yardage or a touchdown involved. No matter, Matthew Stafford is on his way to becoming a veteran QB, and with Golden Tate, he has someone else to throw to besides Megatron. All right, enough about football. Let’s kick off another Top 10 flashback! Continue reading

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it’s time once again for that hallowed tradition, Top 10 Flashback! There is one year in the 1970’s we haven’t looked at yet, so let’s look at it now. Continue reading
What’s up, loyal readers? It may be September now, but both the calendar and the thermometer say it’s still summer – we’re flirting with 90 degrees (F) today here in the Motor City. Don’t think that’ll last long, but if you’re looking for something that will, how about a Top 10 flashback? Continue reading
Hello there, faithful readers! It’s time for another holiday, as we reflect and show our appreciation for the working men and women who made this country what it is by cooking steaks and burgers on a grill and drinking a bunch of beer. Sounds perfect to me. So crack open an ice cold one and let’s all enjoy a Top 10 flashback! Continue reading

Good evening, and welcome to Top 10 Flashback, our weekly “this week in…” feature. I’m your host.
This week we will go back to the last week of August 1977, and we will travel to Buffalo, New York, home of the Bills, Niagara Falls, and asshole-deep snow, and look at the top ten songs at AM 1400, WYSL. I know WKBW was the big station there, but this is the survey I found, so let’s go! Continue reading

Hi, kids! It’s time for another Top 10 Flashback, Labor Day edition! I’m the guy who wastes his time doing this every week. Looking at what we’ve done so far, I see that we have been giving our friends out west short shrift, so let’s take a look at the top ten songs from this Labor Day and back to school week in 1974 according AM 1230, KRIZ in Phoenix. Survey dated September 2, 1974. Continue reading
So, loyal readers, how the hell are you? Give yourselves a big pat on the back for increasing the traffic here – keep it up and I’m gonna have to quit my day job! It was you who made it happen, so a round for everybody! Continue reading

Hello once again, and welcome to Top 10 Flashback, an honored tradition since July 2013. I’m your host, Dick Fitzwell.
This week, we will go back to a superb year in music, 1970, and count down the top ten songs from this week using that music industry bible, the playlist of AM 630, KDWB in Minneapolis/St. Paul. This is what sweet, delectable, eminently fuckable Mary Richards may have been listening to in her Mustang on the way to work at WJM-TV.
You’re gonna make it after all, so on with the countdown!

Welcome to another Top 10 Flashback! Last week, one of our listeners requested a look at 1978, and we aim to please, so here are the top ten songs of 35 years ago this week from AM 710, The New WHB in Kansas City. Survey dated August 16, 1978, the first anniversary of the death of Elvis. Continue reading
